At the FLAMINGo booth, Vasilis Maris from AXIA Innovation engaged with a curious visitor intrigued by the steering knuckle demo, delving into its impact on lightweighting Electric Vehicles (EVs). Questions poured in about the intricacies of topology, design, and die casting methods employed for achieving optimal lightweighting.
“Visitors inquired about our strategies to enhance battery and engine power using lighter materials. Take, for instance, our shift from steel to aluminum Metal Matrix Nanocomposites (Al-MMnC). This transformation made our concept small electric truck significantly lighter, with a remarkable 58% reduction in the steering knuckle’s weight and around 35% in the rear frame.
Thomas Pabel from ÖGI – Österreichisches Gießerei-Institut shed light on the upcoming steps. The plan involves casting left and right prototypes of steering knuckles, subjecting them to extensive component tests, and ultimately integrating them into the truck. This crucial phase is necessary to obtain the green light for mass production.”
Stay tuned for more insights from the FLAMINGo Project as we continue to pioneer advancements in lightweighting technology!
