Our partner, OGI, has exhaustive work on topology optimization to develop a new steering knuckle component for electric vehicles. The performance of a component can be maximized by using topology optimization. The goal of optimization is the reduction of weight or the improvement of structural stiffness. The optimization process starts with defining boundary conditions like loads, construction space, and additional tasks according to a specific part. After several iterations, an optimum design was created. The new steering knuckle can achieve a maximum reduction of weight at 50% compared to the currently available components in the market. Check below the video, where on the right part of the video is the topology-optimized steering knuckle component.
